Your new soulmate

A good acoustic guitar sounds great when it is played unplugged, but achieving the same result when it is amplified often requires some additional help – not strictly in the form of actual effects but also of small enhancements to improve the sound. . The T-Rex Soulmate Acoustic has all of the tools needed to tackle this problem, including EQ controls, a compressor, and a reverb unit in addition to special features such as a chorus effect and a looper, all in a single compact housing. And since T-Rex has quite a reputation to uphold, the famous Scandinavian commitment to quality is also clearly on display here.

That certain something for your sound

The T-Rex Soulmate Acoustic utilises a three-band semi-parametric equaliser and a compressor to shape the sound of the guitar, while the adjustable boost function provides that extra volume needed for solo playing. The reverb unit only offers a hall-style setting, but what is lacking here in terms of variety is made up for in quality, and the reverb can be further enhanced using the “shimmer” control – itself a clear foray into effects territory – for more ethereal sounds. The palette is completed with delay (including a tap tempo feature) and chorus options. The looper is also much more than a simple bonus feature: It can be used to record up to five minutes of material in stereo, which can be combined with delay to create some very impressive soundscapes. A tuner and an automatic feedback kill switch are also included.

A powerful sonic tool

The quality of today’s acoustic guitar pickups is very high, but these are still subject to certain limitations unless a little external help is provided, and this is where the T-Rex Soulmate Acoustic comes into play. The Soulmate provides a practical selection of effects to enhance the player’s performance, and the whole concept is tailored towards live use, where guitarists will greatly benefit from both the boost function and the feedback kill switch. Thanks to its three-band semi-parametric EQ, the Soulmate gives musicians a powerful tool for shaping their sound, and the compressor, an often-underestimated feature, is perfect for creating a full sound as well as extremely easy to use since it features only two controls. Finally, the phrase looper is a clear nod from T-Rex towards acoustic guitarists who perform solo and create their own backing tracks.

About T-Rex

T-Rex is a Danish manufacturer of high-quality effects units that are primarily, but not exclusively, aimed at electric guitarists. The company was founded in 1996 and has developed into a leading niche manufacturer. The devices on offer by T-Rex are popular among demanding professionals and have been adopted by icons such as Steve Lukather and Mark Tremonti. In addition to their excellent sound, these effect units are also reputed for their durability, since only components complying with the highest standards are used.

Tried and trusted for the stage

With its feedback kill switch, tuner, and boost function, the T-Rex Soulmate Acoustic comes with many of the features essential for gigging musicians, so it goes without saying that it will be right at home on stage. The looper allows impressive rhythms to be laid down and complex sonic structures built up, and because the storage capacity allows up to five minutes’ recording time, players can record fairly long tracks. The Soulmate will also fit easily into a more sophisticated setup with a PA thanks to its two XLR outputs, but of course it will sound equally outstanding when combined with a single acoustic amp.

A complete tool box for the acoustic guitar
Donkeyman 06.07.2020
Overall, if you are looking for a one-stop-shop for acoustic guitar effects I would recommend giving this pedal a closer look.

Originally I intended to order an EQ pedal simply to place acoustic guitar tone control directly at my feet. But then I changed my mind and decided to get the entire buffet that is the Soulmate Acoustic and never concern myself again with the acquisition of acoustic guitar effects.

After almost a year without any problems I can say I'm satisfied with this purchase. I mostly use the EQ, compression, reverb, booster and tuner - the modulation, delay and looping are basically ignored. Feedback killer? Yeah I have to use that every now and then too :-) But overall everything sounds great, the product both looks and has proven itself robustly built and considering all of the features packed inside the price seems about right. For me personally most important is the intuitive and simple design - two to three knobs for each effect provides an adequate range of control without overcomplicating things (i.e. effects can be adjusted within the parameters of what 99% of musicians probably want or need).

Only two criticisms. The power supply cable seems really cheap - every time I grab the thing out of my gear bag and plug it in I have a slight foreboding that it won't work. And I don't like the location of the loop station button since I feel I have more control over the timing if I don't have to take my foot off the ground while at the same time trying to avoid striking the boost button.

GL
Very Impressive
G. Love 14.10.2020
Wow, Im very Impressed by everything this acoustic pedal has to offer. It literally has everything an acoustic player will ever need. It basically replaces 7 individual stompboxes, with one very small footprint. Awesome!

The sound quality on all the functions and effects are very well done. It really feels like a high end professional pedal. Its probably all most will ever need. It pairs very well with my Seagull Artist Mosaic EQ (LR Baggs Anthem system) and my Fishman Loudbox Performer. Those two sound great on their own, but throw in the Soulmate Acoustic and it really adds a nice subtle professional polish on everything. Well done T-Rex!

Thank you Thomann for the great price and speedy delivery to Canada. Cheers Eh!

Must Have For Acoustic Players
KMickP 12.11.2020
This is an excellent unit which combines all the effects most people will need. Great EQ, chorus, compression, reverb & delay, so pretty much a one stop shop pedal board for acoustic players! Use it in stereo for the best results! Great build quality, great for live or recording, hence the 5 star rating!

JK
Superb!
John Kapitan (Erca) 12.03.2024
I have been using Soulmate for few years now and over a few hundred gigs.. It has everything that acoustic guitarist needs...
I use a looper pretty much in every song and the playback loop is a bit louder so you need to engage boost on your solos... which now I like, it gives more dynamic into song, but you need to get used to it...
Reverb, delay and compressor for me it's always on... and they perform very well...
I use expression pedal for shimmer and that is very cool feature, it makes a world of difference once you dig it...
The sound of acoustic guitar, overall, through pedal is somehow warm, analog and the EQ section is superb!
Chorus, I don't use that much ( only for ''Purple rain'' :-) ), but it's also very good... I wish it has tremolo instead..
I play Takamine guitar with CoolTube preamp, Larrivee D10, Ovation Glen Campbell 1986, and Taylor classical guitar... They all sound great but Takamine in this combination is out of this world soundwise...
For PA I use LD systems Maui, and Bose T1 Tonematch digital mixer..

Simply great piece of kit!

Only downside is that I have to wait for 3 months for pedal to arrive... it was not in stock... but it came eventually..
Cheers!
